Elizabeth Reed was born in Melbourne on a frosty morning in May. She grew up on Conan comics, blue tongued skinks, plums overhanging the trampoline, the back beaches of Portsea, Pokémon, sleeping through math classes and fairy tales.
Studying the traditional forms of printmaking at VCA and picking up a variety of jobs from a desktop jockey to a woodfire pizzaiolo as well as travelling the globe, Elizabeth Reed has tentatively settled in Melbourne as anyone knows, adventures are like kitten/puppy assassins – you never know when, where or whatever it is will hit you.
Elizabeth’s main weapons are mechanical pencils, fine biros, watercolours and nibs, as well as adept skills in Adobe Studios. She draws heavily from her upbringing on graphic novels and manga (Hellboy, Akira) – the art of setting stories within a panel or more, and from a 20-book encyclopaedia of fairy tales, the beauty of seemingly nonsensical details (The Girl with the Yellow Ribbon).
Elizabeth lives in Richmond with her colourful-tongued skinks Trike & Hero, wears Romance Was Born & vintage clothes and cooks the best bastardised version of Ants on Branches noodles ever.
